LIVE ONLINE SESSIONS

This course consists of 5 live online sessions
of 1.5 hours each

TRAINER: CARA VERDELLEN

Cara is a clinical psychologist at PsyQ.

ABOUT THE COURSE

Tic disorders like Gilles de la Tourette syndrome (TS) are common, neurobiological develomental disorders, characterized by multiple motor and vocal tics. International guidelines recommend behaviour therapy such as habit reversal training (HRT) and exposure and response prevention (ERP) as first line interventions for tics. However, few therapists are trained in these methods and many patients do not have access to this care. The aim of this course is to increase the number of trained tic therapists, so more patients can benefit from these evidence based treatments.

In this course, participants first learn basic information about tics and TS, clinical treatment guidelines and a behavoural model for tics. Also, they are trained in measuring tic severity. Then the elements of the treatment protocol "Tics" for children, developed by Verdellen, van de Griendt, Kriens and Van Oostrum (2011), will be discussed and the basic principles and techniques of HRT and ERP will be taught. These techniques are applicable for adults as well. Finally, participants learn some additional psychological interventions and the use of ehealth in treating tics as well.

OVERVIEW COURSE

FOR WHOM?

This course is meant for psychologists and behavioural therapists who want to develop skills in the (cognitive) behavioural therapy of tics and Gilles de la Tourette syndrome.

SETUP

You follow the live online session in a group of 5 to 10 participants and a permanent trainer per course / session. We expect you to be an active participant during the sessions. Select the date of preference and sign up!

Self-study

TRAINER(S)

This course is given by Cara Verdellen, clinical psychologist at PsyQ.

PRACTICAL

What do you need?
The live online sessions find place in the live online (LOL) classroom (a virtual classroom) where you participate through both camera and audio. To be able to participate, you need a stable internet connection and preferably laptop. Because a laptop often has a built-in webcam and a sound card. If you would like to participate with a desktop, check whether a sound card is included and make sure to have a good headset with microphone. It's also possible to participate with a tablet or smartphone, but for the best experience we advise laptop.

After registration
After you have purchased the course, you will receive a confirmation email and an email with the login instructions for the live online (LOL) learning environment. You will receive unlimited access to the learning environment immediately. Here you can find all the self-study and other interesting learning materials. We also ask you to register for a test session, in which you will be prepared for the first real live online session. During this test session, we make sure that your device of preference functions as it should, and the test session also gives you the opportunity to familiarize yourself with the live online classroom. This way we make sure that you can participate in the first session without worries.

This course starts when at least 5 students have registered. If the course can't start due to too few registrations, we will inform you by mail as soon as possible and we will refund the purchase price within 30 days after cancellation.
